Save Rock&Roll

Fall Out Boy are back and in full force!About time, huh?I've been a fan ever since 'Thnx Fr Th Memories'('07-ish) so to see them return to the stage hit quite close to my heart. These guys went from an underground band to global superstars almost over night, but it all 'died' when they announced they were taking a break. After a 3 year hiatus, the kings of punk surprised the fans not only with a new single, but with a brand new album and tour(click here for tour dates).
'Save Rock&Roll sounds more like 'Fall Out Boy' than any album we've ever done' says frontman Patrick Stump.'We all have different musical influences and we tried to combine that within this album'
There's a lot going on :first,we have this pop undertone to [mostly all of] the songs, paired with heavy guitar notes and aggressive beats, and then we have guest vocals from none other than Sir Elton John as well as Big Sean,Foxes and Courtney Love.
The 'comeback' single '  Light 'Em Up ' was what got me looking forward to hearing their new sound.I have to say,I was a bit hesitant on all the hip-hop/rap ,especially when I heard the collaboration with Big Sean on 'The Mighty Fall'.As I have a natural inclination towards rock I was a bit skeptical ,yet I couldn't help but fall in love with it.Not hope is lost for us rockers though,as Courtney Love is featured on 'Rat a Tat' and,as the boys themselves said 'If anything is rock and roll,it's Courtney'.

The title song,'Save Rock&Roll' is the most spectacular track, and I'm not only saying this because I'm a massive Elton John fan.Patrick's voice blends with Elton's morphing into a wave of emotions. However,my favourite song out of the record is 'Alone Together'.It's the type of song you could blast on a summer night while singing along and dancing like a retard.
As if all the effort put into making this new album and getting it right not only for the fans, but for themselves,FOB decided to transform every track into a music video.

The Fault In Our Stars

"Damn near genious...Simply devastating...Fearless in the face of powerful, uncomplicated, unironized emotion"
                                                                                    -Time

Yes,I'm aware of the fact that I'm probably one of the last people to come across this masterpiece-but better late than never, right?

Our main character is Hazel-cancer fighter. She was diagnosed with lung cancer when she was around 13 years old and her state didn't get much better until taking this miracle drug that helped extend her life temporarily.Because she's sick, her mum thinks that going to a Support Group will help her morally. And so she meets Augustus Waters-a gorgeous,blue-eyed distraction from the real world.Their story flourishes from there: somewhere between 'drinking stars' and the Anne Frank museum, they find true love.

I dived into this book having great expectations and I was not dissapointed. What seemed like a sad, soppy story(people with cancer, and all that) turned into a fantastic love novel.
John Green may possibly be the only author who can write from a teenage girl in the 21st century's perspective(teach me master!!).
My heart felt heavier as I read on,sinking a bit with every chapter. It's beautiful when a book does that to you,it feels truthful to the readers.

Definitely a great read, humorous and sad at the same time.

5/5

Best of 2012

Can't believe another year has  passed..and I still didn't do much with this blog. Not sure how many people actually read it,so there's no point to make lame excuses like I was busy with school(but really I was).As I mentioned I moved countries and I haven't took it very nicely.
So many things have changed, yet I still don't feel different and I'm pretty sure I won't really keep up my New Years Resolutions, but hey,I'll try my best.I plan on posting more, maybe I'll get something out of it.Oh,and also I'm planning on being more positive. Not sure how that will go though.
Right,so for this post I wanted to wrap up 2012 by talking about the best things it had to offer.

Movies.
I'm not really fond of what 2012 had to offer in terms of cinematography.I feel like Hollywood is kind of lacking imagination and everything is all the same.
Nevertheless,I have my favourites and the first one is (obviously) The Hunger Games.I'm embarassed to admit this, but I actually didn't read the books. Not sure if I want to,now that the movie spoiled everything. But I do have to say it was kind of amazing. If you don't know what the movie is about-which I highly doubt-well,it's pretty much distopian this, distopian that. This weird state is divided in 12 districts and every year there's 2 people of each district chosen to participate in The Hunger Games. And this girl Katniss offers to replace her lil' sis in the games, and guess what -SPOILER- she wins.Good for you Katniss, good for you.Lots of romance, lots of cool actions, lots of interesting characters.Worth a watch!
The second movie which was good enough to meet my standards was The Dark Knight Rises. As a huge fan of Batman,I would've liked this movie even if it was a piece of crap because ..well it's Batman so that kind of speaks for itself. So pretty much this movie makes up for the shitty ending of the previous one.So after years of lonelyness Batman rises (lame pun over there-sorry,I can't help myself) accompanied by none other than Cat Woman which is portrayed by the beautiful Anne Hathaway. So the movie had an amazing feel to it,great locations, great actors, great plot. Now all we have to do is wait for the next one..
Mantaining the superhero theme, the next one has to be The Avengers. You don't have to be such a big Marvel fan to enjoy this movie(I'm certainly not).I only recently got into superheroes, but I was familiar with all of them,so it was a great adventure, and the cast was brilliant, altough I'm not the biggest fan of Scarlett Johansson to be honest. Now the plot is pretty simple-S.H.I.E.L.D is attacked by Loki and they have to save the situation, that's what superheroes do.But the ecranisation of this movie was fantastic,so deffinetely looking forward to the sequel.
And the last one, which is a horror one is The Cabin in the Woods.Oh Thor,we meet again. Now this has the typical slasher plot: teens go to have a party in an isolated place and instead, they meet their doom. But this time with a twist! The campers are all under observation by this sick company.I don't want to give too much away so I'm going to stop there. It's refreshing to see a different take on such a classic theme.

TV Shows
American Horror Story is probably the best one of 2012.I've been following this series from the start thanks to my girl Wana( @wanagrrr on twitter-massive book nerd go follow her). It's nothing like the first season. It really kind of mashes the horror and the disturbing in one masterpiece. Not to mention Evan Peters is in both seasons *fangirl moment*.If you've watched the first season, then you're about to jump in a hell of a journey because it's nothing like what you've seen before.First of all,it's based in an asylum and second of all,Adam Levine makes a cameo in the first couple of episodes so that's always a bonus.Expect a full review on this one soon, because I'm a huge fan.
Nothing else to mention, other than Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries, but those shows are addictive more than anything.Oh,and also Gossip Girl finally came to an end,so that was a big moment in 2012.

Books.
I kind of fell out of my bookworm habbits once I moved to London,so I haven't really read too many books since I came here, and Romanian book stores just suck-they never get the newest releases.I'm not complaining though, because this year I discovered my love for Stephen King.
One great series has to be The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. It's labeled as young adult urban fantasy-I see it more as a funny book with amazing storyline and great characters. Not to mention this year it's going to hit the silver screens.
Also by Cassandra Clare,I really enjoyed The Infernal Devices .It kind of has a darker feeling as it's set in the victorian era of London so it has a steampunk-ish vibe attached to it.I just fell in love with Will and Tessa, not so much of a Jem fan(I find him rather annoying). So mark your calendars guys, because the third book is coming out the 19th of March.

Music.
This one is kind of predictable. It's Aerosmith's Music From Another Dimension.I'm a huge rock'n'roller,so that album restored my faith in humanity as they say.Sticking to the rock theme I really liked Marilyn Manson's Born Villain. Not his strongest one,but it's really emotional and poetic, really different from anything he's done, really.
I've been really loving Jack White, former member of The White Stripes.Especially his song I'm Shakin'.He brings quite an unique sound to the stage, and that nostalgic 80's vibe comes with it.
As for non-rock music,I have to mention Fun's Some Nights.Again, unique sound. It's the kind of music that makes you happy and you just want to sing along.Altough I have to say, some of it is really autotuned, but that's just part of who they are.
Last but not least I have to mention Adam Lambert's new record Trespassing. This record is Adam Lambert meets King of Pop,Prince and a bit of Queen. It makes you dance,it makes you want to sing along and party away and it makes you cry.Everything you could ever wish for in an album.

That kind of wraps it up,I suppose.2013,bring it on.

Take a walk inside my mind..

Outside my window there's a whole lot of trouble comin'
The cartoon killers and the rag cover clone
Stack heels kickin' rhythm of social circumcision
Can't close the closet on a shoe box full of bones

Oh hey, you.I'm Elena,by the way.Huge music fan, movie addict and bookworm which is what I'm mainly going to ramble about.Am currently living in London though I come from a little wormhole-Romania.

I'm so happy,'cause today I've found my friends,
They're in my head.

My favourite band is Aerosmith.I'm mentally dating Johnny Depp and Stephen King is by far my favourite writer.I don't make sense half the time but I'll make an exception for this.I love watching bad movies and I'm the queen of the disturbing genre. That's all you might need to know.See you on my next one fuckers.
